China Steel Weekly Market Update(Aug 14)
This weekly market snapshot is compiled based on Mysteel research data, for reference only, not investment or trading advice.
Finished Steel Products
Chinese construction‑grade steel stayed mostly range‑bound at low levels in mid‑August. Rebar for building trades edged down slightly. Construction demand remains volatile; market participants expect steel prices to keep running at a low range for the near term.
Hot‑rolled coil saw a mild price increase, supported by rising raw‑material costs. Nevertheless, weak real‑world end‑user demand limits major upside, and the market is projected to keep fluctuating. Cold‑rolled coil prices were flat, as traders focus on shipment while end‑market sentiment stays cautious.
Medium plate showed marginal gains. The market is gradually moving from bottom conditions toward modest recovery. Continuous inventory reduction and steady consumption create room for a potential price rebound.
Raw Materials: Iron Ore & Coke
Iron ore indexes across spot and forward delivery climbed moderately. Higher iron ore prices deliver cost support for steel mills.
Coking coal and coke prices moved higher as well. Rising fuel costs add pressure to steelmakers’ production expenses.
Market Outlook
Overall, China’s steel market is operating at low price levels. Raw‑material costs are providing bottom‑line support, yet final‑sector demand is still the key restricting factor. Prices may witness limited rebound if consumption keeps improving.
